Later on, he also acquired items from storage lockers belonging to Maier and recovered her personal belongings that would otherwise be destroyed. After discovering the photographer's identity, Maloof posted the collected material on a Flickr discussion page that quickly went viral. ![]() The search for the owner led to a death notice in the Chicago Tribune, published in April 2009, stating that Vivian Maier worked as a nanny in Chicago. ![]() Among them was a paper with a scribbled name - Vivian Maier.Īlthough the material was unsuitable for the book, Maloof returned to it after a year. Auctioned in 2007, the boxes contained a large number of prints (around 3,000), negatives (between 100,000 and 150,000), hundreds of rolls of film, and audio and video recordings that went to three collectors, Randy Prow, Ron Slattery, and John Maloof.Īt the time, Maloof was working on the history of the Portage Park in Chicago, and, looking for photos for his book, he bought around 30,000 negatives for $400 from a local auction house.
